Shaw.ai, Golden Finance
Recently, an interesting and contrasting phenomenon has occurred in the financial circle, completely breaking the inherent boundaries between traditional finance and crypto-finance. Robinhood, a representative of the long-established traditional brokerage, officially launched the self-developed Layer 2 public chain Robinhood Chain, fully committed to the encryption track; while leading crypto exchanges such as Binance and OKX are working in the opposite direction, aggressively deploying traditional financial categories such as stocks, ETFs, and bonds.
What is even more interesting is the dramatic effect brought about by the misalignment of the track: Robinhood Chain, which focuses on compliant traditional finance and is determined to build a compliant asset chain, turned out to be supported by Meme coins for most of its trading volume after its launch. The ecology is lively but has deviated from its original intention; on the contrary, major exchanges that are deeply involved in the native crypto market have gained a large number of incremental users with their traditional financial asset businesses, and their trading volume has steadily increased. The cross-border layout of one in, one out, one positive and one negative is not an accidental industry test, but a clear signal of the two-way integration and mutual penetration of TradFi (traditional finance) and Crypto (encrypted finance). It is also the core development trend of the future global financial system.
As the zero-commission brokerage most familiar to U.S. retail investors, Robinhood’s core background is compliant and stable traditional finance, focusing on stocks, funds, and spot transactions, and serving a large number of ordinary investors. The original intention of launching Robinhood Chain this time is very clear: to rely on its own traditional financial resources to create a compliant Layer 2 public chain focusing on Tokenized Real-World Assets (RWA), to connect the traditional stock, bond and crypto markets, to allow real financial assets to circulate on the chain, and to develop a compliant crypto development path.
But the market reality completely deviated from the plan. According to the latest data from DeFiLlama and Dune, Robinhood Chain’s DEX trading volume exceeded US$3 billion in the first week of its launch, and its cumulative trading scale approached US$4 billion within two weeks, quickly ranking among the top five global public chain trading volumes. However, behind the eye-catching data, the ecological structure is seriously imbalanced. On July 10, the trading volume of Meme coins in a single day accounted for 54.3%. More than half of the liquidity of the entire ecosystem was contributed by various Meme coins. However, its key layout of tokenized stocks and compliant real-life assets accounted for only about 4% of the locked-up value, almost becoming a supporting role in the ecosystem.
Among them, CASHCAT, the popular Meme coin, has become the core of on-chain traffic. It has increased by more than 2158% in the first week since its launch, and its market value has soared to US$156 million. It has more than 25,000 currency-holding addresses, and its 24-hour transaction volume has maintained a level of tens of millions of US dollars all year round. Under the frenzied speculation atmosphere, the original intention of Robinhood Chain has been completely obscured. The original positioning of a "compliant traditional financial chain" has suddenly turned into a new "Meme hype public chain".
What is even more alarming is that there is chaos behind the traffic carnival. Fraudulent tokens that "can be bought but cannot be sold" frequently appear on the chain. Some lending agreement tokens are highly concentrated, which hides the risk of banker control and market smashing. There are even incidents where the founder's wallet mnemonic is suspected to be leaked, and associated addresses are speculating on the sudden rise and fall of Meme coins. A large number of retail investors have been trapped in high positions. This has also led to a consensus in the industry: The short-term traffic brought by Meme currency is not only the growth dividend of Robinhood Chain, but also its biggest development hazard. Speculative enthusiasm far exceeds the actual ecological value, and sustainability is seriously insufficient.

In sharp contrast to Robinhood's "cross-border encounters", the cross-border layout of native crypto exchanges such as Binance and OKX has already been implemented and has achieved results, and has steadily emerged from the circle. In the past, the core users and core trading volume of crypto exchanges were all concentrated in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. The market circle was closed and user growth peaked. Now that industry growth has reached its peak, leading platforms have jumped out of their encryption comfort zones, actively embraced traditional finance, and opened up a new growth curve.
Take Binance as an example. It has recently continued to increase its investment in traditional financial assets. Relying on its in-depth cooperation with Ondo Finance, it has launched popular U.S. stock tokenized products such as Microsoft, Meta, and Nvidia, as well as mainstream ETF tokenized trading products such as QQQ Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500, covering more than 7,000 U.S. stocks and ETF targets. The platform supports zero-commission transactions and small-amount odd-lot purchases. You can participate in investment with a minimum of US$5, adapting to the needs of ordinary investors around the world. It also supports stable currency settlement and all-weather trading, breaking the traditional stock market trading hours, account opening thresholds, and geographical restrictions. At the same time, related products have obtained compliance approval from the Abu Dhabi Global Market and have become a compliant tokenized securities category. Their security and recognition have been greatly improved. The cumulative transaction volume of the cooperation platform has exceeded US$11 billion.
OKX’s traditional financial layout is also frequent and far-reaching. The platform has launched perpetual contracts for individual stocks such as SoftBank and U.S. technology leaders, covering mainstream ETF derivatives such as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. It also opens up commodity trading categories such as gold and crude oil, opens services to European and global retail investors, and supports leveraged trading of up to 10 times. In addition, OKX has completed in-depth cooperation with the Intercontinental Exchange ICE (the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange) and established a joint venture brokerage service provider that can compliantly connect the spot and futures assets of the New York Stock Exchange. At the same time, it has access to the BlackRock tokenized U.S. bond fund, allowing institutional users to use traditional financial assets as margins for crypto transactions, achieving a deep connection between the two types of assets.
The effects of this type of cross-border layout are very intuitive: crypto users who originally only speculated in currencies began to allocate stable assets such as stocks, ETFs, and U.S. bonds; ordinary investors who had previously had difficulty participating in overseas traditional financial markets have realized low-cost, all-weather investments through crypto platforms. A large number of traditional financial users who have never been exposed to the crypto market have entered the platform, bringing massive incremental traffic to the platform. The overall transaction volume and user activity have continued to rise, completely breaking the existing involution dilemma of the crypto market.

On one side, traditional securities companies are taking root in the crypto track, while on the other side, crypto platforms are embracing traditional finance. It seems like a two-way cross-border and mutual "invasion", but in fact it is the complementary symbiosis and two-way integration of traditional finance and crypto finance, accurately stepping into the core logic of the future development of the financial industry.
In essence, the core advantages of traditional finance (TradFi) are compliant, stable, supported by physical assets, and subject to regulatory constraints. Its shortcomings are high thresholds, low transaction efficiency, strong geographical restrictions, and insufficient flexibility; while the advantages of encrypted finance (DeFi/CeFi) are decentralization, all-weather trading, low cost, no thresholds, and extremely liquidity. Its shortcomings are excessive speculation, lack of compliance, large asset bubbles, and extremely high risks.
The two-way penetration of the two major tracks perfectly complements each other's shortcomings. For traditional finance, with the help of encrypted public chain and tokenization technology, it can break the restrictions of region, time and threshold, allow high-quality assets such as stocks, bonds, and commodities to realize global circulation and fragmented transactions, improve the inclusiveness and liquidity of traditional finance, and solve the pain points of low efficiency and narrow audience of the traditional system. The long-term value of Robinhood Chain does not lie in the short-term Meme currency flow, but in providing a feasible carrier for the digitization of traditional asset chains.
For crypto finance, access to compliant traditional assets such as stocks, ETFs, and U.S. bonds can completely get rid of the label of "pure speculation", enrich the asset structure, reduce overall risks, attract stable institutional users and ordinary retail investors, and promote the industry's transformation from a "speculative track" to a "formal financial track." The growth of Binance and OKX is essentially the inevitable result of the crypto industry moving from speculation to compliance and service entities.

The current industry is still in the early stages of integration, and chaos and opportunities coexist. Robinhood Chain's Meme currency dominates the market and speculation is rampant, exposing the problems of insufficient ecological control capabilities and lagging value implementation when traditional financial institutions enter the crypto industry. Crypto exchanges cross-border traditional finance and still face many challenges such as differences in regulatory policies around the world, asset compliance identification, and cross-border transaction risk control.
But it is undeniable that the deep integration of TradFi and Crypto has become an irreversible industry trend. In the future, there will no longer be an absolute separation between traditional finance and crypto-finance. Instead, there will be a new financial system of "digitization of traditional assets and compliance of crypto-assets". Ordinary investors can use the crypto platform to conveniently trade global stocks, bonds, and ETFs, and they can also participate in crypto asset investments within a compliance framework. Both types of assets can circulate freely and be flexibly allocated.
In the short term, track integration will still be accompanied by speculative fluctuations, regulatory adjustments, and model trial and error; in the long term, only platforms and ecosystems that truly implement the empowerment of physical assets, adhere to the bottom line of compliance, and have both liquidity and value can gain a firm foothold in the industry reshuffle. This two-way wall-breaking financial revolution is reshaping the underlying structure of global finance and opening up a new era of financial inclusion, efficiency, and interoperability.
