Trading in KOSPI index constituent stocks was suspended for 20 minutes. At around 1:28 pm that day (12:28 Beijing time), as the KOSPI index fell more than 8% from the previous trading day's closing price, the Korean Exchange triggered a market-wide circuit breaker mechanism. Previously, a new round of fighting broke out between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, which led to cautious investor sentiment and put the benchmark index under heavy selling pressure. This is the seventh time this year that a Korean exchange has activated a circuit breaker mechanism.
