Anthropic calls on the world to suspend cutting-edge AI research and development
On June 5, Anthropic called on top artificial intelligence laboratories to consider slowing down the pace of research and development, pointing out that AI systems are evolving at an extremely fast pace and may soon be able to improve themselves without human intervention, and this ability may cause major social risks. Anthropic disclosed internal data in a blog post on Thursday detailing how quickly its most advanced models are achieving performance improvements. The article points out that the progress of AI models seems to be moving in the direction of "recursive self-improvement", that is, AI systems can achieve autonomous optimization without human intervention. The article states: "We believe that it would be beneficial for the world if it could choose to slow down or temporarily suspend the research and development of cutting-edge artificial intelligence so that social structures and related research can keep pace with technological development." The article proposes reaching a global agreement to clarify how the research and development of artificial intelligence may be slowed down, and establishing a mechanism to verify whether competitors are complying with the agreement.
1. Tencent Hunyuan proposes Stem sparse attention algorithm to accelerate new SOTA for long text reasoning
On June 5, Tencent Hunyuan announced the proposed Stem sparse attention algorithm, which has been included in ICML-26, the top machine learning conference. According to the full-stack acceleration solution of Stem algorithm × HPC operator, at the algorithm level, Stem achieves near-lossless accuracy under 25% of the budget through Token Position Decay (TPD) and Output Aware Measurement (OAM); at the operator level, HPC’s open source Stem+BSA operator converts sparse gains into real hardware acceleration, reducing the first word delay by 3.7 times in the 128K context.
2. Canada releases artificial intelligence strategy
On June 5, the Canadian government officially announced a new national artificial intelligence strategy called "AI for All" on the 4th. The strategic plan invests billions of Canadian dollars in public funds to fill the large-scale capital gap faced by local high-growth AI companies through core measures such as establishing a technology growth fund, expanding sovereign computing infrastructure, and strengthening legal supervision. The government will help local companies attract business capital and retain core talents and intellectual property by providing flexible capital and investment support, and even taking the form of equity investment when necessary, thereby enhancing global competitiveness.
3. Hubei establishes industrial physics AI laboratory
On June 5, the Hubei Provincial Industrial Physics AI Laboratory was established in Wuhan today. The laboratory mainly carries out research and development research around "AI + industrial software + physical mechanism + manufacturing data", focusing on the construction of mechanism models for molds, equipment, parts manufacturing, etc., integrating process parameters, equipment status, material characteristics, processing rhythm and quality results in design, manufacturing, assembly and other scenarios. Transform it into an industrial model that can be calculated, reasoned, and optimized; at the same time, explore the integration of physical simulation and AI, and combine traditional simulation calculations such as flow, temperature, stress, deformation, and wear with AI rapid prediction capabilities to form lightweight simulation models and process prediction models that are more suitable for manufacturing on-site applications.
4. China Academy of Information and Communications Technology takes the lead in establishing two international standards for AI broadband networks
On June 5, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology recently joined hands with more than a dozen domestic and foreign telecom operators, equipment manufacturers and scientific research institutions, including China Unicom, China Mobile, Vodafone and Huawei, to take the lead in submitting two standard proposals, "Service Framework for AI in Broadband" and "Service Requirements for AI Agents in Broadband Networks", which were officially approved at the 2026 Spring Member Meeting of the Broadband Forum. This marks important progress in my country’s international standardization work in the field of integration of artificial intelligence and broadband networks.
5. U.S. AI chip stocks fell collectively before the market opened, with Qualcomm and Intel falling more than 3%
On June 5, AI chip stocks in the U.S. stock market fell collectively before the market opened. Among them, Qualcomm and Intel fell by more than 3%, AMD, TSMC, Lattice Semiconductor, and NXP fell by more than 2%, and Broadcom and Nvidia fell by more than 1%.
1.THORChain: Due to the recent disclosure of vulnerabilities in Zcash, the launch of ZEC will be delayed
On June 5, according to the THORChain blog, ZEC is already in the THORChain launch queue. However, due to the recently disclosed vulnerability in Zcash, the existing patch affects the normal use of the integrator. THORChain needs to complete a code modification of the Bifrost module before proceeding. The development team stated that the modifications are minimal, but must be completed before ZEC goes online. Monero (XMR) is currently expected to be launched at the end of this month, followed by ZEC.
2. In the past 24 hours, ZEC liquidation exceeded US$100 million, with the main liquidation of long orders
Coinglass data shows that ZEC liquidation reached US$108 million in the past 24 hours, including US$76.96 million in long orders, US$30.85 million in short orders, and the largest single liquidation of US$4.658 million. Today's ZEC liquidation is mainly concentrated in Binance (38.75%), Hyperliquid (36.95%) and Bybit (8.26%), showing that these exchanges gather a large number of active leveraged transactions.
3. Binance will support NEAR Protocol’s network upgrade and hard fork on June 10
Binance announced that it is expected to suspend the token deposit and withdrawal services of the NEAR Protocol (NEAR) network at 07:00 on June 10, 2026 (Eastern Eighth District time) to support its network upgrade and hard fork. The project party expects to carry out network upgrade and hard fork at 08:00 on June 10, 2026 (Eastern Eighth District time).
4.OKX Star: X Layer will soon list xStocks’ US stock tokens
OKX founder and CEO Star posted on X, "Tokenized stocks are one of the most important use cases of RWA. We expect to see xStocks on X Layer soon, putting global stocks on the chain and expanding access to capital markets." It is reported that X Layer has previously reached a strategic cooperation with xStocks, a regulated tokenized stock issuance platform, and xStocks-related assets will gradually be integrated into the X Layer ecosystem and OKX Wallet. Star believes that access to global markets should be as open as access to information.
5. U.S. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce: Publishing DeFi code is protected freedom of speech
On June 5, Cointelegraph reported that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce said that releasing DeFi open source code is free speech protected by the First Amendment and should not make developers automatically assume securities regulatory obligations. She noted that many blockchain projects involve releasing open source software, which is generally a protected activity under the First Amendment. Peirce warned against applying rules designed for centralized financial institutions to decentralized blockchain networks because the SEC’s rulebook is filled with intermediary concepts such as brokers, dealers, exchanges, clearing agencies, transfer agents, investment advisors and investment companies. She questioned whether the rules should extend to blockchain infrastructure itself, noting that the distributed network is used for a wide range of purposes beyond securities trading. She said decentralized protocols operate without traditional intermediaries and liability for securities law violations generally rests with the individuals engaging in illegal conduct.
