Walrus is a decentralized data storage network that stores data and rich media content such as large text files, videos, images and audio. Traditional cloud storage systems rely on storing complete copies of data in centralized servers. Unlike Walrus, which divides data into small pieces and spreads it across multiple nodes around the world. With this decentralized approach, Walrus ensures that data can be quickly available even in the event of failure; the system can still retrieve complete data even if some networks are offline. Walrus represents the evolution of how decentralized data storage works, and its establishment draws on the successful experience and challenges of early protocols such as Filecoin and Arweave. By using innovative coding algorithms, Walrus can quickly write and read data, and can also delete data that no longer needs to be stored. It is built on a Sui network, with programmable storage capacity and can be maintained and expanded through smart contracts.
