Storj is a cloud storage platform dedicated to becoming a censorship-free, monitoring-free and downtime-free cloud storage platform. The Storj platform allows users to store data in a secure and decentralized way through encryption and a range of decentralized applications. It uses block transaction functions such as transaction ledger, public/private key encryption and encrypted hash functions for security. In addition, it will be cheaper, faster and safer than traditional cloud storage services.
Storj is working hard to solve data security issues with the help of its own web application, MetaDisk and client application DriveShare. It is a decentralized end-to-end encrypted cloud storage that uses blockchain technology and encryption to protect online files. STORJ tokens are used to rent or purchase storage space in the Storj network.
Project Features
Storj's core goal is to improve traditional cloud storage services and allow users to regain control of their devices and data. Decentralization means that Storj does not have a central server. In addition, due to the adoption of client encryption technology, only end users can access decrypted files and keys, which greatly improves file security.
Application Scenarios
Storj includes a platform, a digital currency and a range of applications that allow users to store data. It utilizes some functions of blockchain, such as transaction ledgers, public keys and private keys, to ensure secure cryptographic hashing. Storj provides users with the most secure, private and encrypted cloud storage based on Bitcoin blockchain technology and network transmission methods.
Storj splits each file into blocks, encrypts them, and distributes it to the Storj network for storage. The network includes driveshare nodes, where users around the world rent out their idle hard drive space in exchange for Storjcoin X (SJCX).
Storj Labs plans to build the world's first distributed cloud storage platform, allowing anyone to purchase and sell storage space from each other in a P2P network, and provide DaaS (Data as a Service) tools and programming interfaces.
Technical Overview
Status: live
Storj aims to build a cloud storage platform that is anti-censored, surveillance-resistant or downtime-free. It is one of the first decentralized, end-to-end encrypted cloud storage platforms.
Storj consists of a series of interconnected components to form a unified system. Each user interacts with various parts of this system, which leads to their own different understanding of what Storj is: for a home user, he does not need to have any knowledge of bridges or protocols when sharing storage space; for developers, he does not need to know any private information about the home user when using the Storj API.
Storj protocol
Storj's core technology is an executable, peer-to-peer storage contract, where two people (or computers) agree to use quantitative storage in exchange for money without knowing each other. We call computer sales space "farmers" and computer purchase space "tenants". The farmer meets with the tenant, negotiates on an agreement, and finally, the tenant uploads the data to the farmer to store.
Contract & Review
The contract has a fixed validity period during which the tenant regularly checks whether the farmer is still storing data. And the farmer will respond to an encrypted proof, telling the tenant that they are still storing data. Finally, the tenant pays the farmer every crypto proof he receives and verifies. This "question-proof-payment" process is called "audit", where the tenant reviews the farmer's storage. When the contract expires, the farmer and tenant can renegotiate the agreement or end the contract.
Storj Network
To find a partner, the node can sign an incomplete contract and publish it to the network. Other nodes on the network can also subscribe to certain contract types that they are interested in and respond to these published quotes. This model is "Publish-Subscribe". In this way, nodes can easily find contracts of interest and forward the contracts to other nodes they think may be of interest.
Finally, the contract and the network form the Storj protocol. It describes the performance of nodes on a network, i.e. how nodes communicate, negotiate and execute contracts, and everything you need to buy and sell storage space on a distributed system. Anyone can implement the Storj protocol in any way they like.
Storj Tool Set
The protocol contains all the tools needed to securely make storage, and Storj has released two tools: Storj Share and Bridge.
StorjShare
StorjShare is a farm client that allows users to easily build and run a farm on any machine. Storjshare provides users with a command line interface (CLI) that can also be automated. Not only that, it also allows users to set parameters such as shared storage space, storage location and payment address. Additionally, it can handle contract negotiations, audit responses, and all other network communications.
Bridge
To help tenants use the network effectively, Storj also created Bridge. Deploy Bridge to production servers to handle contract negotiation, auditing, payments, availability and some other needs. Bridge exposes these services by using application programming interfaces (APIs) and client extensions and storage resources. The client can be integrated into other applications, so that no one needs to be part of the network, any application can use a Bridge server to store data on the Storj network.
Storj API
Storj's core service is an object store similar to Amazon S3. This object store is managed by a set of public Bridge nodes. Infrastructure is used to negotiate contracts, manage transactions, audit work, etc. Users do not need to know that they are using a distributed network, and they can interact with Bridge through the Bridge client. This API is designed for usability, so all the complex things can be handled behind the scenes to provide a smooth, scalable development experience.
Storj is a decentralized cloud storage framework network platform. Ecological users can use tokens to purchase storage services. On the other hand, participants can also provide idle storage space for the network platform to use, and at the same time obtain a certain value return. In addition, Storj Network's service objects can be globalized, and during the operation of the network, files and data are encrypted, sharded and distributed to nodes around the world for storage. The advantages of the entire system are high security, low cost and strong privacy.
Storj implements client encryption with peer-to-peer cloud storage networks that will allow users to transfer and share data without relying on third-party storage providers. No central control will reduce most traditional data failures and disruptions and greatly increase security, privacy, and data control. Storj is a protocol used to create distributed networks for forming and executing storage contracts between peers. The Storj protocol allows peers on the network to negotiate contracts, transmit data, verify the integrity and availability of remote data, retrieve data and pay for other nodes. Each peer is an autonomous agent capable of performing these actions without significant interpersonal interactions.
Storjcoin X (SJCX) is the token “fuel” of the Storj network, which allows users to rent and purchase storage space through the DriveSahre app and MetaDisk.
